Frequently Asked Questions

Dog Specific Questions

Do you work with reactive or aggressive dogs?

I can help you and your dog with leash reactivity, resource guarding, frustration, and fear reactivity, but I do not specialize in aggression. If, after assessing your dog's behavior, it's determined is outside of my specialization, I will refer you to a trainer who specializes in aggression and refund you for that session.

Do you train multiple dogs at once?

Dogs succeed best at learning something new without distractions, and more than one dog is certainly a distraction. However, once each dog is individually trained, they can train together with more success.

What age should I start training my puppy?

The crucial socialization period for puppies starts at 3 - 12 weeks old, and can last up to 2 years old. They will need to have positive experiences with as many different people, animals, objects, places, etc. as possible. You can start training basic obedience to your puppy as early as 12 weeks old. All puppies have different attention spans, and some learn faster than others; always train at your dog's pace and ability.

Training Philosophy

What training methods do you use?

I use LIMA positive reinforcement dog training methods. LIMA stands for Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive, and is the training method promoted by the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers.

We do not need to intimidate our dogs to get the results we want. Maintaining a relationship of trust with our dogs is crucial if we want them to be well adjusted and happy.

Do I need to be present for training sessions?

Dog Training: Yes, for your dog to change their behavior, you will need to change your behavior to achieve results. I will train you and your dog for the best outcome.

Walk & Train: You do not need to be present for every Walk & Train session. For lasting results, owner participation is required for at least one session to ensure you have the skills to continue what your dog has learned.

Will I get follow-up tips or homework after a session?

Yes, within 48 hours of our training session, you will receive an email reviewing our session along with homework to continue you and your dog's training.

Post training support includes one 30 minute follow up call or one email, whatever your preference, to address any further questions or to offer additional support.
